Restaurant review: Bon Gusto, Knowle

The main event
We decided to skip starters and headed straight to the main event! 2 of our party ordered their sea bass which was pan fried and served with king prawns, garlic, shallots, and fresh tomatoes. The restaurant kindly adapted the meal to remove the cream from the dishes, due to dietary requirements. As a side they both ordered a selection of mixed vegetables – obviously watching their calorie intake before all the excesses of Christmas! They said the fish was well cooked and the sauce delicious – as was evident by their empty plates.
A pizza the action!
Someone else ordered a pizza but only managed to eat half of it, nothing to do with the quality of the food, as it was everything you’d want from a pizza – hot, light, crispy and gooey – just too much for them to manage so they got to take the other half away with them. Either for the kids or for breakfast the next day, who knows?
Sharing is caring
Another couple of us fancied something lighter and ordered starters and shared them out, opting for the caprese salad and some zucchini fritte (fried courgettes). The caprese salad was pretty large for a starter and tasted really light and fresh – creamy mozzarella slices interspersed with tomato, drizzled with balsamic. All washed down with the house Pinot Grigio which was light and delicate.
A sweet treat
Afterwards we ordered one mango ice cream cheesecake and all tried a bite – it was so good I’d go back to the restaurant just for the dessert! Teas and coffees followed, ending up with 5 very happy and satisfied customers, proud to have supported a local, independent restaurant that’s trying really hard to offer great food and great service.
