There are a whopping 32 Solihull primary schools. While that might sound like a lot and send you into a panic about which to choose for your child, there’s not as much choice as you’d think as it’s going to come down to where you live, if you have a religious preference, and if you want to pay for your child’s education. There can be confusion between junior, primary, infant and nursery schools and what ages they cover. Primary schools cover the ages to 4 to 11, which some schools will split out into infant (ages 4 to 7) and junior (ages 8 to 11), while nursery schools are for children aged between 3 and 5.

Of the 32 schools, 3 are private primary schools in Solihull – Eversfield, Solihull Prep School, and Ruckleigh – all of which are based in the town centre. As entrance to private schools is assessment based, location is not as important.

Admission to the other schools will depend where you live. There’s no need to look more than a year in advance (unless you plan on moving to get into a specific catchment area). As applications are made in the January, it’s worth reviewing your options the October prior. Applications are made online and will allow you to enter a choice of up to 5 schools. Places will be offered in the April, before school starts that September.

For primary there’s no need to look more than a year before (2025 for you) as there won’t be that many schools you’re in catchment for and they generally have multiple tours so date clashes aren’t a problem. You look around schools in the term before you apply, so Oct/Nov-ish before the Jan application
