Bin Collections

Summary Background Color: Green

You’ll have a different Solihull bin collection day depending on where you live. The best way to find out your collection day is by visiting a specific section of the Solihull Council website and entering your postcode.

The website will tell you your last collection day, your next one, and the frequency of collection for all your bins – the black waste bin, your brown recycling bin, and the green garden waste bin. You’ll need to make sure that your bins are outside by 7am on your collection day, left at the edge of your property nearest the public highway or at your agreed collection point.

You can even print off a Solihull bin collection calendar for the year from this website, and request you receive an email reminder the day before your collection is due. With all this support, there’s no excuse for forgetting to put your bins out!

You can also check what items you can and cannot include in each bin. For example, you can put newspapers in your recycling bin but not tissues or kitchen towel. And you can put plastic bags and plastic packaging in your black bin but not plastic bottles and tubs as these should be recycled.

Replacement bins

If you need a replacement bin, please call Solihull Council on 0121 704 8000. There maybe a charge, depending on the reason you need a new bin, and the Council will advise you of this.

Extra or larger bins

If you need an extra recycling bin, please call Solihull Council on 0121 704 8000 and they can supply you with an additional one at no cost. It’s worth bearing in mind they will collect extra recycling if it is placed next to your brown bin, as long as it’s in a sturdy plastic box, hessian bag or jute bag for life.

If you’d like a larger general waste bin then you can apply for one if you’re a family of six or more permanently living at the same address, or if you have a medical condition that causes additional waste.

Bulky collections

If you have a large household item, such as a piece of furniture or a fridge that you need to dispose of, you can pay for a bulky waste collection on the link below. The item must weigh less than 50kg and measure less than 2 metres. Various items cannot be booked, such as car parts, DIY waste, mirrors and windows – you can see the full list on the link below.

Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC)

If you have a lot of rubbish or recycling that won’t fit in your bins or can’t be picked up through the bulky collections service, you might need to pay a visit to Bickenhill HWRC, also known as Solihull tip.

It’s only available to residents of Solihull and you will need to book an appointment which you can do here: https://www.solihull.gov.uk/Rubbish-and-recycling/Bickenill-HWRC
